Polycarbonate plastic is often abbreviated as PC. PC is an amorphous thermoplastic with good electrical properties, excellent impact strength and moderate chemical resistance. Due to its amorphous nature, PC materials have high transparency.
Polycarbonate has a moderate market price and is therefore a material of choice for many applications.
Performance features:
low density
semitransparent
impact resistance
Medium chemical resistance (low solubility resistance)
Good machinability
Excellent dimensional stability
Stiffness over a wide temperature range
Application fields:
Electronics industry: Enclosures and covers
Semiconductor Industry: Optical Storage media (CD,DVD)
Construction industry: glass assembly
Automotive industry: headlights, taillights and side direction lights
Optical industry: Lenses and inspection glass
